Facebook has been sued for antitrust. Depending on the outcome of the lawsuit, there is a possibility that core Facebook services such as Instagram will be separated.
The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and 46 states filed a complaint against Facebook in the federal court in Washington, D.C.
"Facebook's activities to solidify its monopoly prevent consumers from enjoying the benefits of competition," the FTC said. "Our goal is to reverse Facebook's anti-competitive behavior, and to make innovation and free competition flourish."
If the U.S. government wins the anti-trust suit, Facebook's major acquisition companies could be separated.
